Study Abroad - UK | General Information
The UK has a long history of welcoming international students to study in its universities and colleges. The quality and high standards of UK education is renowned worldwide. There are two areas in particular where it stands out: the international renown of UK research and the long history of its education institutions. While the UK is home to some of the world's oldest and most established universities, and has been welcoming international students for generations, it also has some of the world's most modern facilities.
In the UK last year there were 1.8 million full-time undergraduate students in higher education, which included over 104,000 international students (with over 23,000 Indians). International students make up 10-30% of the university population, and there are a number of opportunities for you to meet both foreign and British students and become a part of campus life. However it isn't just the history of Indian students succeeding in the UK that make it a good choice to study, it's the diverse range of international students in the UK that makes it a unique study location. You'll become part of a student population that features students from almost every country in the world, learning alongside such a variety of students who all bring their own experiences to the classroom, lecture hall or laboratory will only add to what you learn from your tutors.

There has been high investment in UK education over recent decades, which means you'll get access to cutting-edge technology, leading teachers and professors in their field and excellent academic support. You will gain valuable experience of speaking English in its native country and demonstrate to future employers your independence and personal drive. Of course, you'll also be gaining the skills, qualifications and experience you need to succeed in your chosen career.

The new visa or immigration rules passed by the UK government are stringent than before. These rules will put a stop on people abusing the UK student visa system and prevent them to stay illegally in the country thus, becoming a liability. The new set of rules is not a threat to those students who are serious about their academic or professional goals. Santa Monica in its recent communications with the officials of immigration department of UK and Universities, understood that the new regulations are not to stop immigrants or international students rather; it is just a step to pool in quality crowd. Moreover, these rules will definitely increase academic and professional opportunities with higher value. Courses below degree level allow students to work for only 10 hours a week, instead of 20 as at present. This measure is to provide students the opportunity to concentrate more in studies than they did before.

Visas are granted for courses below degree level with a work placement only if the institutions they attend are on a new register, the Highly Trusted Sponsors List. The government has shut down bogus and minor colleges. As a result, students can expect greater opportunities in the international job market. However, the two-year time allowed to graduates to seek employment in the UK after their studies will no longer be permitted, the graduates having an offer of a skilled job from a sponsoring employer under Tier two of the Points Based system will be allowed to do such work. The above rule change will reduce the number of illegitimate immigrants or students in the country thus; it will open wider doors for the legitimate and quality students.

UK universities offer cutting-edge degrees for the twenty-first century; From environmental policy and sustainable development to green engineering and biology, there are options for anyone interested in becoming a professional in this growing field.
